Subject: big fun
it was definitely the highlight of saturday, although i was curled up in a ball in my tent during most of dark star...just listening. lots of goodies around...the recording, although very good, doesn't capture the smiles on the faces of the players, which really enhanced the show. the depth of the drums also gets lost if you can't quite see exactly what both men were doing. i've never heard versions of the first three kimock tunes with such unique backbeat fill-ins though, beacuse of both drummers. i take nothing away from rodney, alan, or john morgan. really cool shit at a time when kimock is tough to catch at his smoothest. a great time, and hess needs to tour with steve in some configuration

Subject: Johnny & Zig!
Haven't had a chance to listen yet, but was in attendance and the highlight of the show was defnitely Johnny Kimock and Zigaboo Modeliste on the double drums. Gave the set a real heavy feel while still retaining the blissful Kimockian sound. Steve also sounded great and played a bunch of tasty licks and solos. All players were great IMO, especially with what seemed like a lack of rehearsal that is common for Steve's festival sets with new(er) players that he hasn't played all that much with. Lots of smiles on stage and the crowd certainly had a blast!
